LAST CALL FOR NOW

Surly’s Beer Hall, Beer Garden, and Surly Pizza Upstairs are closed indefinitely.

The COVID-19 pandemic makes operating a large gathering place impossible, especially in a Minnesota winter. We hope to reopen when it’s safe to do so, but the “when” is simply unknown. COVID sucks.

The “Surly bill” passed in 2011. It changed the Minnesota craft beer landscape. Without the efforts and advocacy of Surly Nation, there would be no destination brewery at all, no Beer Hall to close. The community built us up and put Minneapolis/St. Paul on the craft beer map. What started in a spare corner of a Brooklyn Center abrasives factory became something bigger than all of us.

We’d like to thank everyone who visited Surly in the last 5+ years. The Beer Hall became a Minnesota landmark almost immediately upon opening on December 19, 2014. Its status as a destination was cemented by the experiences and the people. Travelers going straight from the airport to the brewery. Outstate relatives making this a stop on their one trip to “the cities” every year. Guy Fieri. Incredible concerts in Festival Field. Watching the Women’s World Cup in the Beer Garden. People who don’t drink beer coming here just for the food. Families gathering for birthdays. Co-workers celebrating promotions. Couples getting married. Surlyfest.

Those memorable moments simply don’t happen without the Beer Hall staff putting their heart and soul into making it work: Front of house, back of house, retail, events, tours, security. Our thanks to all of them.

The beer itself will continue flowing. Surly is brewing, innovating, and distributing to liquor stores and bars across our footprint. Those establishments need your business now more than ever, and we urge you to continue supporting them. Our online store has all your merch needs covered as well.

This isn’t the Beer Hall’s final chapter. Nor is it a Minnesota goodbye, as we don’t want to keep you here for another 20 paragraphs. Be kind to each other and we hope to raise a pint with all of you somewhere down the line.
