Vaccines for all Minnesotans 16 and older. Increased restaurant capacity. Social gatherings. Governor Walz’s recent announcement that “normalcy is on the horizon, and that brighter days are ahead” has given much-needed hope to many small businesses across Minnesota, including Surly Brewing Co. After indefinitely closing the Surly beer hall, pizza place and event center in October, there is a date in the near-ish future when the doors will hopefully reopen: June 1. Emphasis on “hopefully."
“With Minnesota’s numbers moving in the right direction, it feels safer to enjoy bars and restaurants again. It’s time to for us start planning for the return of our hospitality program and building the team to help get us there,” said Dan DiNovis, VP of Hospitality, Surly Brewing Co. “We have the chance to reimagine what the future of hospitality at Surly looks like.”
Surly will post job listings for an executive chef, general manager, hospitality-focused HR generalist, and digital marketing manager. These positions will help define what the Surly beer hall looks, feels, sounds and tastes like when guests are welcomed back to enjoy uniquely Surly experiences.
“For Surly, the beer hall is our way to create a first-hand experience with the brand,” said Omar Ansari, Founder and Owner, Surly Brewing Co. “We’re able to connect family, friends and the community with new and exciting beers, a massive outdoor beer garden, great food and an atmosphere unlike any other in Minnesota. The recent signs of hope for the industry and large gathering spaces are encouraging. We’re eager to see the return of this experience and raise a pint together.”
Once the hospitality management team is formed, Surly will continue hiring prior to the reopening of the beer hall. All qualified candidates and former employees are encouraged to apply to any open positions. As with all best laid plans, the timeline for opening the Surly beer hall may be adjusted as new federal, state and local COVID-19 restrictions are set and/or lifted. More updates will be shared through official Surly channels when the time comes.
Dedicated in memory of Linda Scheid, the legislator who championed the “Surly Bill” that made all of this possible, Scheid Hall is our acclaimed meeting and event center with a capacity of 175 guests, depending on the type of function desired.
Make your event a SURLY event and stage it at our Minneapolis brewery. Our Scheid Hall event space sets the mood for an intimate, energized gathering, hosting groups ranging in size from 50 to 175 guests. An ideal combination of elegant and industrial design guarantees an unforgettable experience for you and your guests. Surly’s private event spaces are perfect for team meetings, holiday parties, happy hours, rehearsal dinners, weddings, and more.
Although we recently announced plans to reopen the beer hall in June 2021, we're neither holding nor booking future event dates. Our return to hosting events will ultimately be driven by the evolving state health guidelines and corresponding capacity limits.
