Each day, Surly relentlessly pursues craft beer perfection. Pushing boundaries, honing techniques, sweating the details, and eternally grateful that we get to do this for our job. Proudly independent since Day One and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Our Darkness Day 2024 bottles are now available to order, including collabs with Chicago’s Revolution Brewing and Denver’s TRVE Brewing!
Surly Gives a Damn (SGAD) is our charitable arm. It’s our way of giving back to the communities that built us. We contribute to organizations that make our part of the world a better place to live, through donations, partnerships and volunteer events. Our volunteers are a vital, passionate bunch, and they really do give a damn. You’re more than welcome to join. We’d love to have you.
Surly`s Wade is practicing his stein holding for our SurlyFest Stein Holding Competition on Saturday, Sept. 21. Competitors will only have to hold one, but Wade is strong and capable.
Two other things:
1. All our SurlyFest beers will tap this Tuesday at 3pm if you want to preview them before the big day.
2. If you`re celebrating SurlyFest with us on the 21st, those steins are available to bring home with you!

ONE WEEK FROM TONIGHT: Surly is collaborating with Chef @officialedporter (Food Network, Netflix’s Pressure Cooker) on a 6-course meal inspired by some of our Bottle Project beers, their ingredients, and the brewing process. *Duck Confit Croquette w/apple mostarda. Pairing: Italian Pils
*Seared Sea Scallops w/sweet corn puree and charred poblano crisp. Pairing: East (tiki-inspired strong ale)
*Butternut Squash Bisque w/maple-bacon crumble and sage-brown butter. Pairing: South (weizenbock)
*Fennel & Arugula Salad w/charred orange, gorgonzola, candied pecans, and white balsamic. Pairing: North (fernet and bourbon barrel-aged barleywine)
*Venison Loin w/mushroom ragout, celeriac puree, caramelized shallot, and juniper red wine reduction. Pairing: Holiday Party (blended stout)
*Dark Chocolate and Hazelnut Tart w/espresso ganache, caramelized pear, and vanilla cremeux. Pairing: House Blend Nitro Coffee Ale
The event will be held in Scheid Hall at the Surly Beer Hall from 5:30-9:00pm. Tickets are $125 and will include a hosted bar before the meal. The event is open to all, but if you’d like more information about a Bottle Project membership, go to shop.surlybrewing.com.

Darkness with Friends: TRVE Brewing Co.--Darkness aged in bourbon barrels with raspberry, pistachio, and sea salt.
Both this and our Revolution Brewing collab (Darkness aged in bourbon barrels and on single-origin French oak) are only available in our EVIL and DECADENT bottle packages. GOOD NEWS: We`ve confirmed with the Hideaway that none of the little ducks were harmed in last night`s storm. Enjoy Attack of the Quack and Surly Lemonade at the Hideaway along with other Surly exclusives and favorites all over the Fairgrounds.
Onlookers gasp at the Oktoberfeasts--9-inch pierogies (you read that right) served with four different seasonally-appropriate toppings.

While it’s not true that the Minnesota State Fair started as a bet between two Scandinavians about who could deep fry the most unlikely thing, it’s plausible. It’s one of many reasons why there’s simply nothing quite like the Fair, and why we’re thrilled to be a part of it again.
You can get Surly all over the Fairgrounds in 2024, including four all-new beers crafted for some of our favorite spots. We even made a map, because maps are cool.
LuLu’s – Hazy Days IPA and Outlook Good N/A Hoppy Pale. When the late August heat commingles with the steam of a million pronto pups getting dunked in hot oil, a certain haze settles over the Midway. Cool off at LuLu’s with a Hazy Days IPA, which is hazy, juicy, and the ideal pairing for their Deep Fried Ranch Dressing.
Blue Barn – Furious
The Hideaway – Attack of the Quack and Surly Lemonade. After last year’s triumphant Duck Duck Blue Duck, what can we possibly do to follow it up? Simple: Make it purple. The tropical punch-inspired Attack of the Quack is refreshing, fruity, and yes, you can keep the duck.

Ball Park Cafe – 4 Seam Screamer and Furious. Here’s the pitch: A traditional West Coast-Style IPA (clear as a bell and bursting with citrus/pine notes), an order of garlic fries, repeat as necessary.
Café Caribe – Furious and Surly Lemonade
Tejas Express – Tejas Anniversary Lager and Surly Lemonade. A crisp, classic lager to go with Tejas’s array of burritos, chilaquiles, and quesadillas.
