We’re pleased to announce that Surly’s 2024 Darkness Artist is Susan Evans of St. Paul!

Susan says she spent most of her childhood “destroying homework assignments with drawings of mythical creatures.” Given that Darkness has featured everything from mummies and vampires to baba yagas, this really helped her case.

Her need to create led Susan to pursue a degree in graphic design and develop her traditional hand on the side. The samples she sent proved this was time well spent. We were blown away and can’t wait to see what she does with the Darkness line (traditional, variants, and barrel-aged). You can find more of her work on Instagram at @sooz_illustration!
