You might have read about or noticed yourself that there’s a movement happening in how many Twin Cities restaurants do business. The hospitality industry as a whole is reevaluating how it compensates its team members, striving for fairer, more equitable wages for everyone who contributes to making your dining experience enjoyable, whether it be the person seating you, taking your order, making your food, clearing your table, or washing your dishes.

Here at Surly, we’ve joined many local and independent restaurants in replacing tipping–a practice that goes 100% to your server–with a 20% surcharge that supports higher and more equitable wages for all team members, removing tips as a necessity for earning a comfortable income. It also allows us to provide a wide range of benefits to our full-time employees. Those benefits include:

  • Medical
  • Dental
  • Vision
  • Life & Disability Plan
  • 401K with a 4% match
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
    • Temporary childcare
    • Virtual Therapy
    • Life Coaching
    • Counseling
    • Financial Coaching
    • ID Theft Resolution
    • Legal Assistance
    • Wellness info
    • Travel Assistance

Also new with Surly’s reopening is the cross-training of our staff in flex positions, allowing staff to rotate between our four business units (Beer Hall, Pizza, Events Center, and Company Store). This maximizes our employees’ full-time opportunities, all while guaranteeing a reliable and predictable income.

We pay all of our hospitality workers based on experience within a range of $18-$24 per hour. We believe this is the most fair and equitable model for our employees. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak with one of the managers. And if being a part of Surly interests you, please join us!
