Know Before You Go: Mt. Joy

Attending your first Surly concert? Or simply need a refresh on how show days go here? With Mt. Joy taking the stage on Tuesday, August 6th, we’ll attempt to answer the most common ones:

ARE THESE ALL-AGES SHOWS?

No. These are 18+ shows. No exceptions for toddlers or 17-year-olds. Please bring your ID.

WHEN DO THE GATES OPEN?

5:30pm. Watch First Avenue’s social channels the day of the show for set times.

WHERE CAN I GO BEFORE THE SHOW?

The Surly Beer Hall. We’re open at 3pm on Tuesdays. Plenty of room to gather in the Beer Garden if you’re meeting up with friends.

WHERE CAN I PARK?

Parking is already a challenge in our neighborhood. With our parking lot unavailable during concerts, it becomes even more limited. Our first recommendation, in all caps and boldface type: USE PUBLIC TRANSIT, BIKES, RIDE SHARES OR CARPOOL IF YOU CAN. We’re a couple blocks off the Green Line (Prospect Park Station) and even closer to the U of M Transitway. We have extra bike racks and a nearby Lyft drop off/pick up area. If driving is your only option, neighboring businesses have kindly offered their parking lots for use during the show if you don’t mind a little walking. See the entire map below:

WHAT CAN I BRING INSIDE?

The list is below. If you see something that isn’t on it, let us know and we’ll add it.

  • YES: Ear plugs, bug spray, sunglasses, empty water bottles (32 oz. or less, filling station onsite), hand sanitizer/wipes, breast pumps, ponchos/rain jackets. Small bags are allowed but there are bag checks and metal detectors at the gate.
  • NO: Chairs, pets, umbrellas, blankets, flasks, open containers, outside food or beverages, weapons, selfie sticks, professional photography equipment.

CAN I LEAVE AND RE-ENTER THE GROUNDS?

No. There is no access to the Beer Hall from Festival Field.

WHAT IF IT RAINS?

The show is rain or shine 99.9% of the time. There will be a 30-minute hold if lightning strikes within seven miles of the grounds. The First Avenue team makes the weather calls based on National Weather Service advisories.

CASH OR CREDIT?

Credit card only!

WHERE IS THE LOST AND FOUND?

Anything found at the show will be sent to the box office. Anything found after the show gets brought inside to the Beer Hall’s host stand.

WHAT’S AVAILABLE FOR FOOD AND DRINK AT THE CONCERT?

Our food truck lineup is once again the envy of other regional craft brewers with an on-site concert venue.

In addition, we have an array of Surly beers and beverages for you to enjoy.

Beers:

  • Furious
  • Lemonade
  • Hell
  • Mosh Pit Juicy
  • Mosh Pit Hazy
  • Side Hustle (gluten-reduced)

N/A:

  • Outlook Good Hoppy Pale
  • Sparkling Hop Water

As noted above, there will also be a free water station for those looking to hydrate.

If you have any further questions, hit us up on our social channels and we’ll do our best to respond as soon as is humanly possible. See you at the show!
