Arizona Gets Surly

At first blush, there might not be many similarities apparent between Arizona and Minnesota; however, the two states share many important things in common. We love Larry Fitzgerald. We’ve all loaded up the Touch Tunes on a desperate Friday night with Gin Blossoms deep cuts. And there are significant chunks of the year where the weather tries to kill us to death. You can now add Surly Brewing to this list, as Minnesota’s legendary craft brewery expands its distribution footprint to Arizona this October.

“We’ve been hoping to introduce Surly to the Arizona market for years now,” said Bob Repp, vice president of sales (and Arizona native), Surly Brewing Co. “The stars finally aligned, and we’re thrilled to set up shop across the state.”

In partnership with Hensley Beverage Company, Surly will be available across the state of Arizona starting the week of Oct. 14. Arizonans, snowbirds, and craft beer drinkers will see a full portfolio of Surly’s flagship, seasonal, and limited releases at various retailers, bars and restaurants. Brands include Furious, Axe Man, Xtra-Citra, Yummi Bear, and Darkness. Read more about them here:

OCT. 15 | 4-7pm | Taste of Tops (Tempe, AZ)

OCT. 15 | 5-7pm | Tap & Bottle North (Tucson, AZ)

OCT. 15 | 6-8pm | Yucca Tap Room (Tempe, AZ)

OCT. 16 | 4-7pm | Kings Beer & Wine (Phoenix, AZ)

OCT. 16 | 5-7pm | Tap & Bottle Downtown (Tucson, AZ)

OCT. 16 | 5pm | Angel’s Trumpet Downtown (Phoenix, AZ)

OCT. 17 | 5-8pm | The Hungry Monk (Chandler, AZ)

“For Hensley, Surly’s reputation had them on our wish list several years ago,” said Rob Knutsen, craft brand manager, Hensley Beverage Company. “Their unwavering commitment to creating high quality beer and to push boundaries in the craft brewery industry felt like a natural fit with our goal of bringing best-in-class brands from around the world to Arizona.”

Surly was first introduced to the Arizona market with a limited release at Total Wine in 2017. The brewery has been focused on strategic growth since, adding St. Louis, Arizona, and Michigan to our distribution footprint this year. Surly is also participating in Brew Pipeline’s Guest Brewer program to reach new markets through their innovative distribution approach.

The 2020 holiday season is going to be difficult on many fronts. Friday the 13th has many unlucky, sinister connotations, never more so than when it lands in the year of our lord 2020. That said, for all of Jason Voorhees’ many faults, he was way ahead of the curve on the mask front and understood the importance of a good sequel. This Friday, November 13th, Surly … Continued

Minnesota’s first double IPA is back. Abrasive takes its name from Sparky Abrasives, the original occupant of our original Brooklyn Center location. Fueled by a mountain of Citra hops, Abrasive centers aggressive notes of tropical fruit and a bracing bitterness, all offset by a remarkably smooth finish that belies its double IPA strength. Not only … Continued
