Don’t Spell It, Drink It

Our latest Intelligent Design offering comes from Josh “JAWSH” Lemke, our Brooklyn Center lead brewer. It’s called SupercalifragilisticHAZYalidocious. No, really.

Josh’s challenge for this beer was to create a hazy IPA that he’d like to drink. As someone who isn’t a big fan of the style, he focused on yeast, water chemistry, and timed hop additions to create a hazy with medium body, full flavor, and balance. He also used Spelt malt, an ancient grain that has more proteins than whole wheat, adding body and haze.

The result strikes a delicious balance between biscuity nuttiness and tropical notes of peach and tangerine. You might find a slight earthiness and a bit of hazelnut in the mix as well.

In addition to helping create the mural that graces the interior of the Beer Hall with Adam Turman, Josh has now successfully created the longest single word beer name in Surly history.
