You line up for Darkness Day. You get your wristband. You purchase your allotment of 2017 Darkness. Now what?
Given that you’re at a brewery, and you maybe want to cellar those bombers, can we suggest trying some of the other beer we made for the occasion? Many of which are Darkness Day exclusives? We thought you’d agree.
First off, for the cellarers who absolutely can’t wait to try it, we will be pouring 2017 Darkness. To go with that, we offer something old and something new.
The something old is a return of our old friend Dumpster Fire. Named after an actual blaze in an actual trash receptacle at Darkness Day 2012, this smoked IPA is brewed with puya chilies to intensify the heat and smoky character of the beer. As our brewers put it, the chilies will make you think the fire isn’t really out yet.
The something new is Cooper, a damn fine beer brewed with coffee and cherries. Locally roasted coffee, sweet and red tart cherries, and an oat/biscuit malt bill combine to recreate the experience of a slice of cherry pie with coffee “black as midnight on a moonless night” at the Double R Diner. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. This would be an excellent gift.
The rest of our draft lineup includes two other beers from our Embrace the Darkness program, Furious Black and Damien, plus SurlyFest and Todd the Axe Man. We’ll also have cans of Hell and Xtra-Citra if you want to balance out the Darkness with some light.
And that’s just kegs and cans.
Throughout the day, we’ll be rolling out exclusive casks and kilderkens, brewed just for your enjoyment on this darkest of Saturday afternoons. The list below is correct, and yes, there are four different Darkness variants.
- Darkness with Vanilla Aged on Red Oak Kilderkin
- Cherry Darkness Kilderkin
- Salted Darkness Kilderkin
- Mole Darkness Kilderkin
- Sardonic Infused with Blueberry & Basil Firkin
- Mango Axe Man Firkin
- Simpson’s Scottish Ale Firkin
