What started out as a closely fought battle between two titans of batter-slathered wiener-dom turned into a rout, as the Pronto Pup cruised to an easy victory over the corn dog in Surly’s Corn Dog vs. Pronto Pup showdown.
The contest coincided with the Minnesota State Fair, the Upper Midwest’s premier event for deep-fried foodstuff enthusiasts. It ended with Pronto Pups winning by a comfortable 61%-39% margin.
“I told you, I told you, and I KNOW I told you,” said triumphant Surly Senior PR & Communication Manager and longtime Pronto Pup advocate Tiffany Jackson. “Pronto Pups today, Pronto Pups tomorrow, Pronto Pups forever.”
Corn Dog supporters were defiant even in defeat.
“Shut up, Tiffany,” said Surly Graphic Designer and local cat owner Tanner Bachman. “Corn dogs rule.”
An email arrived in Pronto Pup voters’ inboxes on Monday, letting them know their candidate won and inviting them to Surly’s Beer Garden from 3-6 pm on Tuesday to enjoy a complimentary, house-battered Pronto Pup from Surly’s kitchen.
“The people have spoken,” said Jackson. “Some spoke with ketchup. Some spoke with mustard. Some even spoke with no condiments whatsoever, which is frankly concerning. But there is no doubt about what they said. We welcome all Pronto Pup voters to Surly to celebrate a gritty, hard-earned victory with a cold beer and a hot Pronto Pup.”
