Surly turns 20 this year. That’s a big effing deal! In an ever-evolving industry like ours, two decades is a real accomplishment.
We would never have reached this landmark without the unwavering support of the Surly community–craft beer drinkers, metalheads, soccer moms, minivan dads, weird uncles, party aunts, middle managers, BC Taproom regulars–far and wide. That’s why, as we celebrate this milestone throughout 2026, this one is all about them.
Here are just a few things you can expect as we roll out our year-long festivities:
A Trip Through the Archives
Surly beers are never permanently retired. They’re just…on a break. And this spring, classic “taproom era” Surly offerings return to the Beer Hall with a vengeance.
Bender is already on and it tastes as great as ever. In the coming weeks/months, we’ll be welcoming the following beers back to the fold on draft and in crowlers:
- Cynic
- Smoke
- Bitter Brewer
- Coffee Bender

X-cellent News
In market, we’re X-tremely X-cited (we call this a tease in the biz) to welcome the mighty XTRA-CITRA back to our core lineup of beers! An easy-drinking, low-ABV pale ale with the hop kick of IPAs twice its size, Xtra-Citra’s bright, citrusy notes of grapefruit and pineapple were sorely missed. It goes to all Surly markets this spring on draft and in 4, 6, and 12-packs. (And yes, it will be with the original can/logo.)
Get Out the Vote
We’ll be distributing a fan-selected Surly Variety Pack to our Upper Midwest audience later this year. Tom from Mahtomedi who has been demanding the return of Overrated for six years? This is his moment. More details on this in the coming weeks.
The Surly Passport
Finally, we’re introducing a 20th Anniversary Surly Passport for our local Beer Hall audience. You know those coupon booklets you purchase from the local youth hockey team that get you a nickel off gas at the Pump ‘n Munch? This is basically that, but 100x better: Complimentary beer, free hog frites, merch discounts, BOGO pizzas, you name it, it’s in there, all redeemable at the Brewery throughout 2026. We’ll be selling them online and at the Beer Hall later this month!
