On Monday, Jerrod Johnson and Ben Smith, who were recently named head brewers of Surly Brewing, lead a media tasting of our world class IPAs. This is the first time both Abrasive and Todd the Axe Man have been in the market at the same time. This is a rare opportunity to be able to taste four IPAs side-by-side and see the diversity of IPAs crafted at Surly Brewing.
Let’s Talk Beer:
Furious: (Year Round) An amber-colored ale with citrusy hoppy aromas and flavors, balanced out by a chewy caramel malt backbone (sweetness), with a refreshing bitter finish. Also, the second beer Surly ever brewed and continues to be our flagship beer.
Overrated: (Year Round) Pale gold American (West Coast) IPA with fruity-citrus aromas from generous dry hopping. You might remember trying this at the Target Field when it debuted as Bandwagon IPA.
Todd the Axe Man: (Year Round) Our version of the West Coast Style IPA first brewed in collaboration with Amager Brewery in Denmark. Brewed with one malt, Golden Promise from the UK, with Citra and Mosaic hops. Named by Amager’s marketing director Henrik Papsø after Surly’s founding head brewer, Todd Haug.
Abrasive: (Seasonal , November – January) Hazy gold in color, this Oatmeal Double IPA has aggressive aromas of candied grapefruit/tangerine and tropical fruit. Malted oats greatly enhance the body and the high level of bitterness is balanced by this sweetness. Citra hops are used for aroma & flavor additions and for dry-hopping, while Warrior hops are used primarily for bitterness.
Don’t miss your opportunity to try all four for a limited time. Find them in all seven states where Surly distributes.
