Surly Goes Nitro

Equal parts art & science, the fermentation experimentation continues.  2017 marks the launch of a year-round Nitro program featuring familiar styles and new innovations. While the Nitro style has been around for decades (purportedly invented by some British dude named Mike), Surly is proud to offer a rotating, local option every two-months for distribution on draft in all 7 states where Surly is sold.

2017 is bookmarked with Nitro Cacao Bender (Dec 2016-Jan), an oatmeal brown ale aged on cacao (sounds like Ka-Pow) and vanilla. Known for its robust, cold-press coffee aroma, the cappuccino-like creaminess is only amplified when pushed through Nitrogen. Next comes Dodgy Geezer (Feb-Mar), a classic take on a sessionable brown ale, followed by Dampfbier (Apr-May) our lesser-known German Ale brewed with a traditional Bavarian Hefeweizen yeast. Summer brings two new Nitro Innovations (Jun-Jul & Aug-Sep) and we round out the fall with a return to our medium-bodied, malt-forward Simpsons Scottish Ale (Oct-Nov).

Nitro Cacao Bender releases in all markets the week of Monday, Dec. 5.  The Twin Cities launch will take place Groveland Tap at 6pm featuring $4 pints and all day. Stay tuned for release parties in IA, WI, IL, ND, SD & NE.  #GetNitro
