Surly Crosses the Border

Canada, Other

We have these big new tanks. They are huge. We bought them so we could:

  1. Make more beer, and
  2. Reduce the amount of “WHEN IS SURLY COMING TO (literally every place on earth)??!?!?!” comments from the far-flung citizens of Surly Nation in our social feeds.

On that note, we are thrilled to announce that Surly Brewing is making its first foray into international distribution, as you’ll now be able to get a litre of Surly in Manitoba.

“As a Minnesota-based brewery, we are familiar with long winters, hockey and drinking good beer–the cornerstones of northern culture,” says Surly founder Omar Ansari. “We look forward to growing the Surly Nation in Winnipeg and beyond.”

We’ve already available in select Manitoba locations, and our official debut is at the Flatlander’s Beer Festival in Winnipeg this weekend (the Winnipeg Free Press has a preview of that here, and we agree that you should definitely sample Todd the Axe Man). A few things to note about this:

  • We will be draft-only to start, with cans coming late summer/early fall.
  • This is exclusive to Manitoba, so if you want to get Surly, Banff residents, it’ll be a bit of a drive. Make a weekend out of it. The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce¬†will be happy to help.
  • Minnesotans who’ve been clamoring for the rebirth of the Surly growler fill, update your passports: We can legally fill growlers in Canada, and will be doing so at growler-friendly locations.
