The August 19th Father John Misty concert at Surly Festival Field (with special guests Tennis) is almost sold out. If you’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on tickets, we’d suggest you get to getting on that. If you need a little extra persuading or an excuse to skip out on the family reunion in Perham:
THE MAIN EVENT
There is a lot to recommend about Father John Misty. He gives a good quote. His Twitter account is deeply weird but in the right way. His facial hair game is peerless. But the music is the thing. Some choice cuts:
“Total Entertainment Forever” off the new album, Pure Comedy. Yes, that is Macaulay Culkin.
“Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings” from his debut, Fear Fun. Yes, that is Aubrey Plaza.
“Bored in the USA” on Letterman. Yes, that is an excellent visual joke at the 1:20 mark.
Covering “I Believe I Can Fly” on a cruise ship. Yes, that is Har Mar Superstar on backing vocals.
Get here in time for the opening act, Tennis. They have what we’re going to call “bangers” until someone tells us we’re too old to use that word.
The music alone will be worth it, so if there are still any tickets left at this link, scoop ’em up. And to the guy in our Twitter feed who keeps calling him Papa John Misty: There will be no garlic dipping sauce at this event, as he is not a pizza magnate. That is a totally different guy.

We have a good chunk of land here at Surly. So much so that we can transform a parcel of it into Surly Festival Field and greet roughly 5,000 of you for an afternoon of live music, entertainment, sundries, and more. No, we don’t know what sundries are, but you bet your ass we’re going to have them.
We inaugurated Festival Field last year with shows from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes and Dr. Dog. Your feedback on what you liked about the concerts and how we can improve the experience drove us to put on another show this year.
The full lineup of food options and Surly beers will be released very shortly. We look forward to spending a late-summer day with all of you at our place. See you then.
