Downstate Illinois: Let's Get Surly.

Greetings, people of Downstate Illinois.

(NOTE: We had a long office discussion about why the parts of Illinois that aren’t Chicago are called “Downstate”. A whiteboard and some plat maps were involved. Googling was done. “Rockford is north of Chicago, how in the hell is it Downstate,” was asked. “Hey, Cheap Trick is from Rockford, and Cheap Trick rules,” was also noted. We resolved that “Downstate Illinois” sounds and reads better than “the parts of Illinois that aren’t Chicago” and we’re using it.)

We wanted to give Downstate residents a heads-up that Surly is extending its distribution to the entire state of Illinois. Champaign-Urbana, Bloomington-Normal, Belleville, Peoria…everywhere. We’re set to launch with Marketplace Selections the week of May 1 with over 20 release events across the state. (Surly is already available in the Chicagoland-area with Windy City Distribution.)

illiniEvent schedule. Floyd’s Thirst Parlor is an incredible name for a bar, in our opinion.

[UPDATE: Two events added on Tuesday, 5/2 at Craft Beer Bar in Springfield and Alexander Briggs in Charleston.]

“We’re excited to be teaming up with Marketplace Selections, a family-owned company that shares our commitment to quality and service,” says Surly’s owner and founder Omar Ansari. “Earlier this year, we added eight new 600bbl fermenters to meet current demand and expand to new markets, and our canning line is now pumping out both 16-oz. and 12-oz. cans. We hope you’re thirsty, because we’re making a lot of beer.”

Surly fans from the Quad Cities to Carbondale can now enjoy the full line-up of our year-round and seasonal brands, including Furious IPA, Hell Lager, Overrated West Coast IPA, Todd the Axe Man West Coast IPA, Cynic Belgian Pale Ale, Coffee Bender Oatmeal Brown Ale, Bender Oatmeal Brown Ale, Xtra-Citra Pale Ale and #MERICA Lager. Limited quantities of specialty beers like Darkness Russian Imperial Stout will also see seasonal availability.
